Acute Physiotherapy Services

Physiotherapy is involved in the treatment of all children from birth (in the neonatal nursery) through to 18 years of age.

Services are provided to patients in both the inpatient and outpatient setting covering complex medical speciality areas such as neurodevelopmental delay, cardiology, respiratory, orthopaedics, rehabilitation, adolescent medicine, oncology, intensive care, neurology and rheumatology.

The aim of physiotherapy is improve function and independence in each patient. This is achieved through age appropriate, evidence based therapy and family focussed practice.

The paediatric physiotherapy team is made up of 12 therapists covering all areas of paediatric speciality and working across the inpatient and outpatient setting. Specialist physiotherapy services are based at Monash Medical Centre. The team of physiotherapists are linked to the Southern Clinical School of Monash University and provide clinical education to many undergraduate physiotherapy students.

Referral to physiotherapy services is via Medical Consultant.
