General paediatrics care

General paediatrics manage children admitted to children's ward with all acute illnesses that present to the Emergency Department, and are in need of inpatient care.

These children predominantly have acute infections or asthma, and generally stay on the wards from 1 to 3 days.

Children with more complex problems are managed in conjunction with sub specialty units, or their care may be transferred directly to these units.

Outpatient clinics provide follow up for recent ward discharges, long term attendees or GP referrals. Appointments can be made by writing directly to the outpatients clinic coordinator, or one of the unit general paediatricians at Monash Medical Centre, Dandenong or Casey Hospitals.
