The ward has both medical and surgical patients. Most of the surgical patients are elective ENT and general paediatric surgery. The medical patients are usually admitted from the emergency department or referred from other hospitals. There are 7 consultant paediatricians caring for the medical patients.
The surgical patients have a post-op follow up in the outpatient department at Casey or in the surgeon's private consulting rooms. The medical patients requiring follow up see the consultant paediatrician who cared for them in the hospital in their private consulting rooms or their own paediatrician in their private consulting rooms.
Monash Children's at Casey also has a 6 bed Special Care Nursery. Plans are underway to increase this to a 20 bed neonatal nursery.
