Special Care Nursery Casey
$5.2 million project is funded by the Victorian Government for expansion of the Special Care Nursery at Casey.Since planning for Casey Hospital, Victoria has experienced an unexpected surge in births across the state and the Victorian Department of Human Services – Design Guidelines for Hospitals and Day Procedure Centres have been reviewed and updated.
The State Government provided funding in the May 2008 budget to enable the number of cots at Casey Hospital to be expanded by 14 to a total of 20 cots. Increasing the Special Care Nursery from 6 cots to 20 cots, increasing the capacity in this area.
Service enhancements
The redevelopment will enable:
- more neonates to be cared for closer to home
- an increase in the acuity of neonates cared for at Casey Hospital
- the provision of a more family friendly environment including an increase in the facilities for parents and families within the immediate environment.
Timeline
Work commenced on site in November 2009 and is expected to be completed by October 2010, with the new nursery open for the care of neonates in late October 2010.Information for patients and visitors
