Paediatric Surgery

Research in the fetal surgery centre is focused on the risk factors for fetal malformations including fetal megacytis, fetal cord ligation, fetal amniotic band divisions, and fetal myelo-enteric-megacystic lesion. The research includes fetal imaging in collaboration with the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Radiology, and Fetal Medicine.

Congenital anomalies research includes a study on the long-term outcome of the antenatally diagnosed conditions of the lung, gut, and urinary tract including congenital cystic adenomatous malformation of the lung, gastroschisis, duodenal atresia and urethral diverticuli. Keyhole surgery is replacing many operations and we are at the forefront of the development of minimally invasive surgery including CO2 pneumovesicum bladder tumour biopsy and laparoscopic appendicectomy.
