Speech pathology

Providing assessment and treatment for pre-school children (0-5 years) who may have difficulty with:
  • speech (saying the correct sounds)
  • language (putting words into sentences)
  • stuttering
The speech pathologist provides information about communication development and difficulties to community groups and keeps in touch with children in local services such as pre-schools and childcare.

These programs and groups are available under this service:

Toddler matters (walking to three years )

  • provides a multidisciplinary assessment and therapy referred for speech therapy, counseling, occupational therapy or physiotherapy

Cost

  • $5.00 per group session.

Referral

  • private practitioners or early intervention services where appropriate.

Developmental play therapy group - Cranbourne

  • eight to 10 week course focusing on helping parents understand and manager their child’s challenging behaviour and communication skills
  • children from two years up to school age who are experiencing complex behavioural or emotional problems along with communication difficulties

Cost

No fee charged for:
  • Bulk Billed Medical (Medicare Card)
  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background
  • Information & Appointment Service
  • Young People (12-18 years)
  • Children 0-2 Years whose parents are on Health Care Card / Pension Card or Low Income
  • Financial counselling
  • People with Temporary Protection Visas or who are Refugees
  • Asylum Seekers Clinic is free – available only at Greater Dandenong Community Health Service.

Fees charged

  • $8 for Health Care Card individuals/ families
  • $8 Pension Card holders individuals/ families
  • $8 Low income individuals/ families
  • $12 Medium Income individuals/ families
  • $80 High Income (full cost recovery) individuals/ families
  • $20 for Non-Medicare medical service
  • Groups range from $2 to $20
  • $31.45 for Non-Medicare medical services (Asylum Seekers Clinic is free)

Limit to Fees

There is a limit on the fees you pay in any one fortnight. If you receive three services from us in one fortnight, you will not pay for further services in that fortnight, except medical services.

Missed Appointments

A fee of $10 may be applied when cancellations with less than 24 hours notice are given.

Why are Fees Charged?

  • Community Health Services receive funding from Commonwealth and State Governments.
  • Both levels of Government have a policy of “user pays”
  • Money raised from fees is put back into health services so that more people can benefit
  • Fees are much lower than the actual cost of the services.
