Neurosurgery

An expert service in paediatric neurosurgery is provided at the Monash Medical Centre, Clayton.

Mr Andrew Danks and Mr Chris Xenos are both sub-specialists in this field and each have over a decade of experience in this field. They offer considerable expertise in the assessment and management of patients with brain tumours, myelomeningocele and other forms of spina bifida, hydrocephalus and other intracranial or spinal fluid collections, Arnold-Chiari and DBS for movement disorders.

Neonatal neurosurgery

Neonates are managed in conjunction with the neonatologists in NICU, or other less intensive ward settings.

Emergency neurosurgery

Emergency neurosurgery including head injuries is also catered for with a 24/7 coverage. Other paediatric neurosurgery conditions are catered for in similar fashion.

Neuroradiology

Advanced interventional neuroradiology is available for management of vascular conditions.

The service can be accessed by calling the on-call neurosurgery registrar at Monash Medical Centre or by referral to the rooms of the two paediatric neurosurgeons. Mr Andrew Danks can be contacted on 9594 2886 and Mr Chris Xenos on 9545 6924.
