Diabetes Ambulatory Care Service (DACS)
Initial education and stabilisation of children and adolescents with newly diagnosed Type 1 diabetes has traditionally involved admission to hospital for 5-7 days. There is evidence to suggest that outpatient stabilisation can result in a number of benefits to the child and his/her family. The potential benefits include:- Improved psychological adaptation
- Improved metabolic control
Programs offered by DACS
- Stabilisation program for newly diagnosed patients
- Stabilisation for existing patients with sub-optimal control
- Continuous blood glucose monitoring
- Insulin pump therapy: initiation and review
- Multidisciplinary support and education groups for patients and families
