Children piece Casey quilt together - DHS Health Victoria
A special unveiling ceremony marked Mental Health Week at Casey Hospital.
More than 40 children helped make a quilt that has been hung in the foyer of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) building.
The quilt was made as a record of the children’s time spent at Casey.
The project began in June with drawings of the children’s families.
‘All the children were very keen to participate and I thank them for their support,’ said CAMHS Team Secretary Simone Ciminelli.
‘In the early stages, the children asked us many times if the quilt had been finished and showed how eager they were to see the finished product.’
Southern Health Director of Child and Adolescent Health Lisa Lynch said it was important to provide a creative outlet for children.
‘The children completed their own calico squares and we made them into a quilt,’ Ms Lynch said.
‘The children ended up using their own creativity and drew whatever they wanted.’
The children—who attend the adolescent mental health clinic—their parents and families joined Southern Health’s Director of Mental Health Services Anne Doherty to unveil the quilt.
