Nurses step up for surgeon
FOUR nurses from Dandenong Hospital climbed up 88 flights of stairs to honour a beloved friend and colleague.
Marcia Tsiros, Tanja Karac, Denis Levin and Natascha Mazurek climbed 300 vertical metres during the Eureka Tower Climb on Sunday to raise money for Whitelion and Interplast Australia and New Zealand, charities supported by Interplast plastic surgeon Guy Dowling.
Mr Dowling died on August 1, and the group, Eureka Climb for Guy, raised more than $2000 for the organisation which Mr Dowling worked tirelessly for.
Ms Karac said the team had all been friends and colleagues of Mr Dowling.
‘‘ We’ve all worked with him, from three to 10 years between us,’’ she said.
The Eureka Climb has 1500 participants and is one of the highest vertical races in the world. The fastest climber raced to the top last year in just under nine minutes.
Ms Karac said the group did the climb to show how proud of Mr Dowling they were.
‘‘ We’re doing this in his honour. We’re grateful to everybody who sponsored us and is digging deep for a good cause,’’ she said.
‘‘We weren’t just thinking of him on Sunday, we think of him every day.’’
