Truck accident survivor little Elina reunites with her kittens at Monash Children’s

Ten year old Elina from Dingle was tragically run over by a semi-trailer in September and sustained horrific injuries to her right foot, which doctors thought may have to be amputated.

After 15 operations at Dandenong Hospital the amazing Plastic Surgery and Orthopedics teams were able to save her foot, but only after amputating the big toe.

Elina received a number of muscle flaps, skin grafts and had most of the sole of her foot removed and has been recovering on the Monash Children’s ward for the last month. Doctors believe she is lucky to be alive and that not only should she keep her foot but may also be at home and walking again in time for Christmas.

Nurses on the ward say Elina is a true little battler but has greatly missed her pet kittens back home. On Wednesday Elina received a special visit, hospital arranged to have her kittens visit her on the ward.
