Minister shown the benefits of Monash Children’s expansion
Victorian Health Minister Daniel Andrews was today given a first look at the direct impact the $10.9 million State Government Budget announcement would have on families and patients at Southern Health’s Monash Children’s.The State Government has committed $10.9 million for interim works to go ahead to build an expanded facility for Australia’s third largest children’s hospital, Monash Children’s.
The funding will provide for 10 extra paediatric beds, four neonatal intensive care beds and five paediatric intensive care beds.
Southern Health Chief Executive Shelly Park and Monash Children’s Medical Director, Nick Freezer, led Minister Andrews on a tour of Southern Health’s paediatric services.
“The Minister met two families at Monash Children’s and Monash Newborn who provided a great example of how Southern Health and the Victorian Government are working together to provide even better services and patient outcomes,” Ms Park said.
Working closely with the State Government, Southern Health is committed to ensuring paediatric services in Melbourne’s south-east is of the best quality and that the growing demand is being met.”
Professor Freezer said it was great to be able to show the Minister how the funding would help families in Melbourne’s south-east and beyond.
“This expansion means even more families will be able to access our services. It is a great boost for families in the south-east corridor, the Mornington Peninsula and the Gippsland region.
“The Minister saw today how grateful parents and families are for these vital services; this is a very exciting time for Monash Children’s.”
