Southern Health Welcomes New Monash Children’s Centre
Southern Health Chief Executive Shelly Park has welcomed the Victorian Premier’s announcement of a $250 million commitment to expand Monash Children’s at Monash Medical Centre in Clayton.Plans include a state-of-the-art building on the north-western side of Monash Medical Centre providing a purpose-built environment for children and their families.
“We have been working with the Victorian Government and the Department of Health for the last four years in planning for this major expansion of children’s services in our area,” Ms Park said.
“We all know about the vast population growth in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Approximately 350 people each week move into our coverage area and the thousands of young families depend on our care for their children.”
Ms Park said demand for children’s services will continue to grow, with an expected growth of 10 per cent in the 0 to 19 age group from 2006 to 2016.
“Our emergency department at Clayton sees some 26,500 children each year, and we see close to 47,000 children across our three emergency departments annually, with 27,000 admissions to our hospitals,” she said.
“Our clinical, service and capital planning staff have worked hard to bring us to the point where the Government is now committing to proceeding with this important project. Our organisation has been caring for the children of Victoria for more than 100 years, and this fantastic announcement means we will continue to be at the forefront of care for our children.
Southern Health is very grateful for the ongoing funding support that we receive from the State Government to ensure we have the infrastructure needed to support our delivery of patient-centred care to our community.”
