Paediatric and Adolescent Endocrinology and Diabetes Unit
The service covers infants, children and adolescents under 19 years old providing assistance and education for patients to help them mange their diabetes at home.The service is located at Monash Children's Clayton on the fourth floor and operates weekdays between 8am – 5pm (excluding public holidays). The service also provides inpatient care for people with diabetes between 0-19 years of age and continuing outpatient diabetes care for individuals from birth to age 25.
All diabetes care provided is age-appropriate evidence based best practice.
Diabetes Ambulatory Care Services (DACS)
Diabetes Ambulatory Care Services (DACS) provides telephone and direct access to a paediatric endocrine advanced training registrar, an SRMO, and diabetes nurse specialists during the clinic operating hours on weekdays (public holidays excluded), and paediatric endocrine consultants as required.Paediatric Endocrine Consultants are rostered to provide 24 hour On Call consultant support.
Inpatient Care
Emergency inpatient care (including PICU admissions and inpatient consultations for other Units) for endocrinology and diabetes patients aged under 19 years. The unit also provides Neonatal Endocrine NICU ward consultations as required.Endocrine testing e.g. Growth hormone arginine/glucagon testing, water deprivation tests and bisphosphonate infusions is also carried out with patients in residence.
