Diabetes Ambulatory Care Service (DACS)

Initial education and stabilisation of children and adolescents with newly diagnosed Type 1 diabetes has traditionally involved admission to hospital for 5-7 days. There is evidence to suggest that outpatient stabilisation can result in a number of benefits to the child and his/her family. The potential benefits include:
  • Improved psychological adaptation
  • Improved metabolic control
