Volunteering at Monash Children's
Volunteers' invaluable contributionMonash Children's dedicated volunteers from many cultural backgrounds and ages are an integral part of our paediatric services across the three sites.Working alongside our staff, volunteers help in areas as diverse as pre-admission clinics, emergency departments, rehabilitation and Monash Children's Wards. They help us deliver extra care in many ways - playing with young patients, guiding visitors and patients around our hospitals, assisting in community rehabilitation - adding their special talents to the professional care we offer. Our volunteers are a great example of the partnerships we have with our community, and are a direct link to the population we serve. The policy of Monash Children's is to encourage volunteer activities associated with children. Volunteers will be recruited to perform tasks that will enhance patient care or provide a service that would not otherwise be provided. The volunteer program provides a meaningful way in which the community can directly help Monash Children's and its patients. Volunteers at Monash Children's do not clean, do any manual work, childmind or wash clothes. Volunteers are recruited by one of our Volunteer Services Coordinator. All volunteers are recruited by means of an interview and written application. Once chosen to fill a position, volunteers are trained through an induction program. All volunteers in Monash Children's require a 'Working with Children' check prior to commencement. Volunteers are covered by insurance and are given free on site parking, identification badges. All volunteers are recognised for their services at a special award day.
